The earliest periods of mourning seemed to involve ceremonies organised by women. There were also “neighbours’ masses”, which the people surveyed could barely be remembered. Those ceremonies were less frequent from ''urthe buruko meza'', the traditional “year-end mass”.

No existen “leyendas sobre la muerte” propiamente dichas en este territorio, a lo sumo, algunas historias estereotipadas sobre ''arima erratiak'' así como tópicos y prácticas alejadas de cualquier racionalidad. Es raro que ''Herioa'' se perciba como una entidad y que algún informante la describa. Un ritual funerario arraigado y estructurado hace que se asimile el momento fatal, y el paso de la casa a la morada eterna.
