*Etniker-Navarra: It was set up in 1969, as a complement to the Basque Ethnology Chair held by José Miguel de Barandiaran at the University of Navarra. The initial research was published as ethnographic monographs of the surveyed locations began to be published in ''Cuadernos de Etnología y Etnografía de Navarra'' from that very year onwards.

En In 1972 comenzaron los primeros intentos para formar un grupo de trabajo para el proyecto , the first attempts began to form a working group for the Etnikerproject. Este grupo como That group was formalised as Etniker Gipuzkoa se formalizó en in Ataun en in 1974.
*Etniker-Álava: Los primeros intentos de la formación de este grupo fueron en la Sociedad Excursionista Iradier de Vitoria en 1971. En 1973 se estableció un grupo de investigación en la Sección de Etnología del Consejo de Cultura de la Diputación Foral de Álava. Posteriormente los componentes del Grupo Etniker Álava formaron el Seminario Alavés de Etnografía y crearon la revista Ohitura donde se han ido publicando el resultado de sus investigaciones referentes en Álava.
