Otro apartado se dedica a la alimentación y a los establos. Se describen además los diversos procedimientos empleados para controlar a los animales cuando están en el campo. Se analiza el ciclo reproductor: el celo y la cubrición, la gravidez y el parto, las paradas y la inseminación artificial.

El grueso de la obra se centra en el estudio del ganado de monte en los distintos territorios. Se abordan las marcas de propiedad. La subida con el rebaño al monte es objeto de detenido estudio y en ella se describe la comitiva animal, los pastos veraniegos e invernales y el ciclo anual del pastor. También se abordan los pastos comunales: los comunales en Bizkaia, las hermandades y comunidades de pastos de Álava, las parzonerías guipuzcoanas y alavesas, las uniones y los comunales de Navarra, las peculiaridades pirenaicas, las corralizas navarras, las facerías, los sindicatos territoriales y el kaiolar del País Vasco norpirenaico. También se tratan los antiguos seles en Vasconia. Se describen los establecimientos pastoriles en los montes y sierras.

The best part of the work focuses on the study of upland livestock and the practice of driving flocks to upland pastures. The following issues are likewise addressed: animal retinue of the shepherds, mountain or summer pastures, valley or winter pastures, annual cycle of the shepherd; livestock branding; common pasture land in Bizkaia, commons associations and brotherhoods in Álava, ''parzonerías'' in Gipuzkoa and Álava, unions and communal land in Navarre, specific features of Pyrenean commons, Navarrese ''corralizas'', ''facerías'' or cross-border grazing agreements, territorial grazing syndicates in the Northern Basque Country, and north Pyrenean ''kaiolars''. Ancestral grazing sites and mountain pastoral establishments are also described.
  
La detallan asuntos relativos a la trashumancia y la trasterminancia. La itinerancia a los pastos invernales y al contrario, a los pastos veraniegos en época estival. También se estudian las clases de pastores según sean ellos dueños del rebaño, pastores asalariados de grandes rebaños o pastores concejiles, y sus condiciones de vida y de trabajo. Las diferentes clases de perro que ayudan al pastor en el cuidado del ganado, la indumentaria, el ajuar y la artesanía que han desarrollado y la caza de los animales depredadores de los rebaños.

Besides all of the above transhumance, both winter and summer transhumance, and transterminance are dealt with at length. Other topics of research are: types and uses of sheepdogs; types of shepherds, including shepherds with their own flock, large flock shepherds on a wage and council shepherds, and their living and working conditions; the shepherd’s apparel, pastoral craft items and belongings, and the hunting of vermin.
